Coll. 6635RES347 - Wirrealpa Lmst, Ten Mile Creek (Cambrian of Australia)

Also known as SSF 14.9

Where: South Australia, Australia (31.3° S, 138.9° E: paleocoordinates 16.9° N, 162.3° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Wirrealpa Limestone Formation, Toyonian (512.9 - 510.2 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Wirrealpa Lmst which overlies the Billy Creek Fm and is overlain by the Moodlatana Fm - both bounding units are Cambrian in age. Laterally equivalent to Arfrona Creek Lmst of Flinders Range and Ramsay, Stansbury, and Coobowie Lmst, and Corrodgery and Moonan Fm of Yorke Peninsula THICKNESS: From bed less than 3 m thick within 130 m thick section. AGE: Traditionally assigned to Middle Cambrian based on lateral facies relationships, lithostratigraphy, and age diagnostic trilobites. However, new data from sequence stratigraphy and paleontological evidence suggest a late Early Cambrian age (equivalent to Toyonian of Siberan Platform). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: 20 m above PBDB# 64465 and 7 m below PBDB# 64467.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; lithified, shelly/skeletal, sandy limestone

• ENVIRONMENT: Deposited in relatively warm, shallow water over a broad epicontinental shelf. SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: Deposited during a widespread marine transgression.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Fossiliferous sandy limestone. LITHIFICATION: Presumably lithified give age and facies description (i.e. limestone).

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Collected by B.C. Youngs (see Youngs, 1977). REPOSITORY: SADME (South Australia Department of Mines and Energy, Adelaide.
