• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Makatini Fm, whch overlies an unamed pre-Aptian unit and is overlain by the Mzinene Fm. THICKNESS: From a 30 cm bed within ~20 m section. AGE: Aptian IV based on ammonite biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From concretionary bed near top of the section.

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, concretionary, blue siltstone

• ENVIRONMENT: No detailed environmental data reported in text.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Spheroidal, blue-hearted concretions with burrowing bivalves, dirfted and in life position, assumed to be siltstone based on surrounding lithologies. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, assumed on the basis of facies descriptions of adjacent beds, and figures from subsequent publications (e.g. Kennedy and Kinger 1977).
