Environment/lithology: foreshore; lithified, calcareous sandstone

• 'Darwin described outcrops of "yellowish earthy sandstones, with ferruginous veins, and with concretions of hard calcareous sandstone" near Navidad, Cardenal Caro Province, central Chile. He referred to these outcrops as the "Formation of Navidad".' The excellent preservation points to the derivation of the specimens from the calcareous sandstone concretions.
