• Sediment preserved with the skull has yielded a dinoflagellate assemblage including Saturnodinium pansum and Pentadinium imaginatum [11; M. Uhen 2012, pers. comm.]. The overlap of these two species is defined by the first occurrence of P. imaginatum at the base of NW European dinoflagellate cyst zone D15c (ca. 27.2 Ma) [12] and the last occurrence of S. pansum at Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes around 24.5 Ma [13].
