Where: Japan (43.0° N, 134.1° E: paleocoordinates 43.2° N, 133.5° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Shiranuka Formation, Early/Lower Pliocene (5.3 - 3.6 Ma)
• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Shiranuka Fm, which overlies the Atsunai Fm (Middle Miocene) of the Atsunai Gp, and is overlain by Pleistocene terraces. THICKNESS: From bed with formation that attains a thickness of 350 m. AGE: latest Late Miocene-Pliocene on the basis of molluscan biostratigraphy; Takikawa-Hombetsu stage (6.0-2 Ma); some debate over age - some author refer fauna strictly to the Pliocene. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown position within the Shiranuka Fm.
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; lithified, gray sandstone and lithified, gray siltstone
Size class: macrofossils
