Loc. 6001a (cycle W-3) - Waita Formation (Oligocene of Japan)

Where: Japan (33.8° N, 130.5° E: paleocoordinates 40.3° N, 126.4° E)

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Waita Formation, Early/Lower Oligocene (33.9 - 28.4 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Waita Fm, which overlies the Honjo Fm of the Ashiya Gp. THICKNESS: From individual bed within formation that reaches 450 m in thickness. AGE: latest Early Oligocene according to Sakakura (2002) on the basis of calcareous nannoplankton and foraminifera (see Saito and Okada, 1984; Tsuchi et al., 1987). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From middle of cycle W-3, in lower part of formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; poorly lithified mudstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Offshore siliciclastic environment. From highstand phase of relative sea-level fluctuation.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Mudstone. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified on the basis of figured specimens and age.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Presumably Sakakura (c. 2002). REPOSITORY: Possibly Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan.
