Fyansford Fm - Fyansford (Miocene of Australia)

Where: Victoria, Australia (38.1° S, 144.3° E: paleocoordinates 47.4° S, 142.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: M5b - M6 foram zone, Fyansford Formation, Langhian (16.0 - 13.8 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Fyansford Fm, which conformably overlies the Puebla Fm (Early Miocene and Batesford Limestone, and is unconformably overlain by the Black Rock Sandstone and Moorabool Viaduct Sandstone (Late Miocene). AGE: Middle Miocene (Batesfordian-early Bairnsdalian) according to Beu and Darragh (2001). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown stratigraphic position(s) within single section. NOTES: From antiquated publication that predates establishment of region lithostratigraphic framework. Assignments to lithostratigraphic unit and age are based on interpretation by enterer on the basis of cross-referening localities and taxa to more recent publications (e.g. Darragh 1970, Darragh 1986, and in particular Beu and Darragh 2001). More recent works make this Balcombian, which is Langhian (PJW)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

• ENVIRONMENT: Environment not reported in text, presumably shallow marine siliciclastic setting.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Unknown lithology, presumably siliciclastic. LITHIFICATION: Unknown, not stated in text.

Taxonomic list

• COVERAGE: Exhaustive list, comprising bivalvia, gastropoda, and scaphopoda. NOMENCLATURE: Very antiquated nomenclature (c. 1880's) with species-level assignments from authoritative publication. Nomenclature updated where possible through recent systematic revisions and checklists (e.g. Darragh, 1970).
