Chaotian Section, Dalong Formation, Uppermost Limestone, Bed D10 (Permian of China)

Also known as Mingyuexia Gorge

Where: Sichuan, China (32.7° N, 105.9° E: paleocoordinates 10.5° N, 91.5° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Dalong Formation, Changhsingian (254.2 - 252.2 Ma)

• "Pseudotirolites-Pleuronodoceras Zone and Rotodiscoceras Zone of the late Changhsingian"

•bed within a 2 m interval

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: gray limestone

• entire section is mostly proximate "to a carbonate platform" but chert incalacations are from "a slightly deeper environment than platform"
• "uppermost (2 m thick) part of the formation comprises gray, micritic limestone rhythmically bedded in 5 cm with nodular surface... Thin layers of acidic tuff, less than 10 cm thick, occur at 8 horizons [separating the fossiliferous beds]"

Size class: macrofossils
