Onondaga Formation, Seneca Member (Devonian of the United States)

Where: New York (43.0° N, 76.0° W: paleocoordinates 38.9° S, 23.3° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Seneca Member (Onondaga Formation), Eifelian (393.3 - 387.7 Ma)

• "Chonetes" community

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore shelf; lithified, argillaceous limestone

• Seems like tempestite deposition, but get verification. "...indicative of poor circulation and a low oxygen content"; "Very highly argillaceous"; "extremely soft substratum"; "Outer-neritic"; shelf edge (see Koch, 1981); Chonetes zone corresponds to zone J of Oliver, 1954)
