Ostrea (Turkostrea) strictiplicata-cizancourti comm. - Kalatar Fm (Eocene of China)

Where: Xinjiang, China (41.0° N, 84.0° E: paleocoordinates 40.3° N, 77.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kalatar Formation, Lutetian (47.8 - 41.3 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Kalatar Fm, which overlies the upper member of the Qimugen Fm (Late Paleocene-Early Eocene) and is overlain by the Wulagen Fm (late Middle Eocene). AGE: lower Middle Eocene. Justification not stated, but presumably through macrofossil and microfossil biostratigraphy. Pollen present. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From bed within upper part of the formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; lithified, ooidal, shelly/skeletal limestone

• ENVIRONMENT: Oyster/reef beach, normal salinity, in water temperature of ~33°.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Bioclastic and ooidal limestone. LITHIFICATION: Not stated, presumably lithified on the basis of facies.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the NIGPAS

Collection methods: bulk,

• COLLECTOR: Not stated, but presumably X. Lan and J. M. Wei (1980's). REPOSITORY: Probably Nanjing Inst. of Geol. and Pal., Academia Sinica.
