Where: Castile-La Mancha, Spain (39.6° N, 5.0° W: paleocoordinates 51.8° S, 109.9° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Member (Pusa Shale Formation), Tommotian (525.5 - 521.0 Ma)

• ... a short distance down-section, Palacios et al. (2002) reported the acritarch Comasphaeridium velvetum, a taxon described from the Mazowsze formation of Poland (Moczydlowska, 1991) in strata correlatable to the late Nemakit-Daldynian or early Tommotian.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; mudstone and fine-grained siltstone

• These strata are believed to be off-shore deposits in a basin with frequent reduced oxygen levels (Vidal et al., 1994).
• The new fossil mollusks were collected at several levels within an approximately 5 m thick intervall of finely laminated alternations of mudstone and siltstone or fine sandstone with a high content of organic material, typical of the middle unit of the Rio Huso group (see Vidal et al., 1999) (Figure DR1C).
