Tungubakkar (Tjornes Horizon 10/3) (Pliocene of Iceland)

Where: Iceland (66.2° N, 17.2° W: paleocoordinates 66.2° N, 17.1° W)

When: Pliocene (5.3 - 2.6 Ma)

• Horizon 10/3 within the Mactra Zone of the Tjornes Sequence in Bardarson's Horizons.

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; unlithified conglomerate

• Deposits probably formed in very shallow water. Formed possible in rough conditions either intertidally or on a beach
• The deposit was a coarse gravel with fragments of Arctica and Lentidium

Collection methods: bulk

• Samples of 2-3kg were taken in Baroarson's horizons. Quantitative mollusc analyses were carried out on about 1kg of each sample by picking apart the material.
