Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, ferruginous, shelly/skeletal, gray, cherty/siliceous mudstone and limestone

• very fine-grained rock with conchoidal fracture and semi-translucent aspect. pasty-grey when dry, black when wet. appears to be highly siliceous mudstone. important constituents fresh feldspar, quartz, limonite, chlorite. beds 1 - 3', seperated by black shaly partings. beds of black chert. occasional impersistent beds of detrital limestone.
