• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Santa Clara Fm, which is a lateral equivalent of the Merced Fm, and overlies the Monterey Shale (Miocene). AGE: Late Pliocene, on the basis of macrofossil biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From the several hundred ft above the base of the Santa Clara Fm.
