Songtao [Huanglian Section, Jiumenchong Fm], 48 m (Cambrian of China)

Where: Guizhou, China (28.2° N, 109.2° E: paleocoordinates 28.6° N, 158.7° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Wutingaspis-Eoredlichia zone, Huanglian Member (Jiumenchong Formation), Atdabanian (521.0 - 516.0 Ma)

• Lower Cambrian successions are well exposed and consist of the (uppermost) Proterozoic Liuchapo and the basal Cambrian Qingshudong formations. The Jiumenchong Formation conformably overlies the Liuchapo Formation, which consists of black silicolites (cherts) and phosphatic siliceous shales. The Jiumenchong Formation is subdivided into two members. The lower member consists of black shale yielding bivalved arthropods (Sunella) and tubular fossils (Sphenothallus) 15 m above the base of the formation. The upper member consists of dark gray argillaceous limestone with trilobites, including Hupeidiscus sp., Sinodiscus changyangensis, and Metaredlichia sp.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, gray, argillaceous limestone

Size class: macrofossils
