Type specimens:

  • Baltemys staurogastros: UCMP 127200, a shell (nearly complete shell lacking parts of P10 and some costals). Its type locality is Chriacus Locality, which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming.
  • Baltemys velogastros: UCM 32796, a partial skeleton (carapace and plastron). Its type locality is Huerfano III, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Huerfano Formation of Colorado.

Ecology: aquatic carnivore

Distribution:

• Eocene of United States (21: Colorado, Wyoming collections)

Total: 21 collections each including a single occurrence
