Sister taxon: Dakosaurus maximus

Type specimen: MHNSR PV344, a partial skull (fragment of rostrum composed by parts of the maxilla, nasal, and premaxilla, lacking tooth crowns). Its type locality is Catan Lil, which is in a Tithonian offshore shale/marl in the Vaca Muerta Formation of Argentina.
