Sister taxa: Archaeospheniscus lowei, Archaeospheniscus wimani

Type specimen: OM C.47.21, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Duntroon (Kokoamu Greensand), which is in a Duntroonian offshore shelf limestone in the Kokoamu Greensand Formation of New Zealand.

Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore

Distribution: found only at Duntroon (Kokoamu Greensand)
