Type specimen: USNM 11643, a partial skeleton (lower jaw and much of the axial skeleton anterior to the pelvic region). Its type locality is Broad Street, Clifton, which is in a Norian/Rhaetian terrestrial sandstone in the Passaic Formation of New Jersey.
