Type specimens:

  • Prionochelys matutina: CNHM P27561, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Moore Brothers Farm, which is in a Santonian/Campanian carbonate limestone in Alabama.
  • Prionochelys galeotergum: CNHM PR125, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Smoky Hill breaks, which is in a Turonian/Santonian marine horizon in the Niobrara Formation of Kansas.

Ecology: aquatic omnivore

Distribution:

• Cretaceous of United States (12: Alabama, Kansas collections)

Total: 12 collections each including a single occurrence
