Type specimen: UCMP 112048, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Avilla Beach W, which is in a Piacenzian offshore shelf sandstone in the Pismo Formation of California.
Ecology: aquatic carnivore
Distribution: found only at Avilla Beach W
