Belongs to Tylototriton according to G. K. Noble 1928
Sister taxa: Tylototriton kweichowensis, Tylototriton taliangensis, Tylototriton verrucosus, Tylototriton weigelti
Type specimen: Brit. Mus. 42742, a skeleton (skeleton on two slabs including parts of the skull, ribs and limbs). Its type locality is Öhningen, which is in a MN 7 + 8 lacustrine limestone in the Upper Freshwater Molasse Formation of Germany.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Öhningen
