Sister taxon: Protopithecus bonaeriensis
Type specimen: Universitets Zoologisk Museum (UZM) 1623 and 3530, a set of limb elements (left proximal femur and right distal humerus of the same individual). Its type locality is Lapa do Periperi, which is in a Pleistocene cave horizon in Brazil.

Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
