Type specimens:

  • Astraspis desiderata: USNM 8121. Its type locality is Harding Quarry, northwest of CaƱon City, which is in a Franklinian open shallow subtidal sandstone in the Harding Sandstone Formation of Colorado.
  • Astraspis splendens: USNM 21333 (detached exoskeletal plate, showing typical ornamentation).
