Sister taxa: Pterynotus (Purpurellus) gambiensis, Purpurellus veranyi
Type specimen: USNM 646438, a shell. Its type locality is TU 866 - Silverdale [Silverdale Fm], which is in an Oligocene marine horizon in the Silverdale Formation of North Carolina.
Ecology: epifaunal carnivore
Distribution: found only at TU 866 - Silverdale [Silverdale Fm]
