Type specimens:

  • Protosuchus haughtoni: BP-1-4746. Its type locality is Farm Sunnyside (1178) (Upper Elliot), which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian terrestrial sandstone in the Elliot Formation of South Africa.
  • Lesothosuchus charigi: BMNH R8503, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Lithipeng South (Red Beds of Stormberg Series), which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Elliot Formation of Lesotho.
