Sister taxon: Tetracynodon tenuis
Type specimen: BP/1/2170, a partial skeleton (Nearly complete skull, lower jaw and anterior part of skeleton). Its type locality is New Castle of the Admiralty Estates farm, Field No. 3849 (Beaufort Grp.), which is in an Induan/Olenekian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Normandien Formation of South Africa.
