Type specimen: BP/1/6235, a partial skull. Its type locality is Sauropod Quarry, farm Spion Kop 932 (BPI), which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian coarse channel fill siltstone/sandstone in the Elliot Formation of South Africa.
