Type specimens:
- Tullimonstrum gregarium: CNHM PE 10504, an exoskeleton. Its type locality is original description of Essex fauna, Pit 11, which is in a Desmoinesian delta plain shale in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois.
- Nemavermes mackeei: FMNH PE21551. Its type locality is Pit 11, Braidwood, Mazon Creek (FMNH coll), which is in a Westphalian D deltaic mudstone in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois.
