Sister taxa: Toomeyospongia gigantia, Toomeyospongia modica
Type specimen: USNM 304046. Its type locality is Seven Heart Gap 2, Apache Mountains, which is in a Capitanian slope limestone in the Bell Canyon Formation of Texas.
Ecology: stationary epifaunal suspension feeder
