Sister taxon: Trigona (Hypotrigona) eocenica
Type specimen: AMNH DR-14-1178, an exoskeleton. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Illinois NHS coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
