Sister taxon: Phanomys vetulus

Type specimen: MACN A 11302, a maxilla (right maxillary fragment with P4-M2). Its type locality is Barrancas del Río Santa Cruz, which is in a Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in the Santa Cruz Formation of Argentina.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution:

• Miocene of Argentina (7 collections), Chile (1)

Total: 8 collections each including a single occurrence
