Type specimen: OMNH 62673, a tooth (right upper molar from the distal part of the series, perhaps M5). Its type locality is Near the mouth of Hell Canyon, about 17 km ENE of Edgemont (OMNH V1243), which is in a Berriasian/Valanginian fluvial mudstone/sandstone in the Lakota Formation of South Dakota.
