Type specimens:
- Thoracopterus wushaensis: GMPKU P-3061, a skeleton. Its type locality is Layer 43, Nimaigu Village, Wusha Township, Xingyi, which is in a Longobardian marine limestone in the Falang Formation of China.
- Potanichthys xingyiensis: ZMNH M1692, a skeleton. Its type locality is Wusha, Xingyi (Zhejiang Museum collection), which is in a Longobardian marine horizon in the Falang Formation of China.
