Sister taxa: Palaeocastor fossor, Palaeocastor nebrascensis, Palaeocastor peninsulatus

Type specimen: SDSM 40123, a skull (skull with associated right mandible). Its type locality is East of Rockyford (Protoceras Channels), which is in a Whitneyan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.

Ecology: amphibious browser

Distribution:

• Oligocene of United States (2: South Dakota collections)

Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
