A. operculatus microreticulatus subsp. nov. is characterized by its distal area having smaller reticulum than the proximal pole. Muri becoming densely packed in distal pole. Lumina decreasing to less than the width of the muri and often becoming slit-like near the operculum margin (0.51.5 &956;m in diameter) resulting in a foveo-fossulate sculpture. Operculum is small, generally foveolate, diameter of foveolae less than 1 &956;m (0.40.7 &956;m). Nexinous body thin, smooth to verrucate, rounded, about 1/2 to 3/4 grain diameter.
