Sister taxa: Latonia gigantea, Latonia seyfriedi
Type specimen: FSL: 150.80, a maxilla (An almost complete right maxilla, with its processus posterior and tips of the processus pterygoideus and processus palatinus broken off). Its type locality is Laugnac, which is in a MN 2 lacustrine marl/limestone in the Agenais Limestone Formation of France.

• Pliocene of Greece (3 collections)
• Miocene of Austria (4), France (3), Germany (1)
Total: 11 collections each including a single occurrence
