Type specimens:

  • Rubidgea atrox: RC 13, a skull. Its type locality is Dorsfontein, Graaff-Reinet, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.
  • Broomicephalus laticeps: RC 101, a skull (nearly complete skull and lower jaws). Its type locality is Soetvlei, Richmond, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian terrestrial siliciclastic in South Africa.
  • Gorgonognathus maximus: GPIT K46, a partial skull (flattened right half of a skull). Its type locality is Kingori locality, Ruhuhu Basin, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in the Usili Formation of Tanzania.
  • Rubidgea kitchingi: TM 2002, a partial skull (poorly-preserved, mostly unprepared partial skull and lower jaws, much of it obscured by plaster). Its type locality is Doornberg, New Bethesda, Daptocephalus Assemblage Zone, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian terrestrial siliciclastic in South Africa.
  • Rubidgea laticeps: RC 33, a partial skull (dorsoventrally crushed, highly restored skull and lower jaws). Its type locality is Patrysfontein, Wellwood, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.
  • Rubidgea majora: BP/1/699, a skull (nearly complete skull and lower jaws). Its type locality is Coetzeeskraal, Murraysburg, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian terrestrial siliciclastic in South Africa.
