Sister taxa: Barrancatatus rigidus, Barrancatatus tinguiririquensis
Type specimen: MPEF PV 6299B, an osteoderm (several isolated osteoderms). Its type locality is La Cancha, which is in a Tinguirirican terrestrial horizon in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.
Ecology: ground dwelling insectivore
Distribution: found only at La Cancha
