Type specimen: MAL 290, a skull (Almost complete skull with lower jaw). Its type locality is Fossils 'B1', Lower Bone Bed, Chiweta, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in the Chiweta Beds Formation of Malawi.

Distribution: found only at Fossils 'B1', Lower Bone Bed, Chiweta
