Sister taxon: Sysphinctostoma smithi
Type specimen: RC 113, a skull. Its type locality is Lumku Farm, Lady Frere, which is in an Anisian terrestrial horizon in the Burgersdorp Formation of South Africa.
Ecology: planktonic suspension feeder
Distribution: found only at Lumku Farm, Lady Frere
