Belongs to Melanerpeton according to R. R. Schoch and A. R. Milner 2014
Sister taxa: Melanerpeton arnhardti, Melanerpeton eisfeldi, Melanerpeton humbergense, Melanerpeton latirostre, Melanerpeton moravicum, Melanerpeton pusillum
Type specimen: FG 321/8/198, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Sembachtal near Winterstein, which is in a Gzhelian terrestrial horizon in the Ilmenau Formation of Germany.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Sembachtal near Winterstein
