Sister taxa: Neophiomys dawsonae, Neophiomys paraphiomyoides
Type specimen: DAK-Pto-011, a mandible. Its type locality is Dakhla, Porto Rico, U4 level C2, which is in an Oligocene estuary/bay conglomerate in the Samlat Formation of Morocco.
