Type specimen: AMNH FARB 32768, a skeleton (nearly complete and largely articulated skeleton). Its type locality is Solnhofen (AMNH FARB 32768 locality), which is in a Kimmeridgian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Torleite Formation of Germany.
