Sister taxon: Kumimanu fordycei
Type specimen: NMNZ S.45877, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Hampden Beach, which is in a Paleocene marine horizon in the Moeraki Formation of New Zealand.
Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore
Distribution: found only at Hampden Beach
