Sister taxon: Megapleuron rochei
Type specimen: FMNH R 5323, a skeleton (a small, nearly complete fish preserved in counterpart). Its type locality is Megapleuron zangerli-type locality, which is in a Pennsylvanian interdistributary bay horizon in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois.
Ecology:
Distribution: found only at Megapleuron zangerli-type locality
