Sister taxa: Vanellus madagascariensis, Vanellus selysi, Vanellus vanellus

Type specimen: SAMA P54992, a limb element ( right coracoid, near complete, missing processus procoracoideus and processus lateralis). Its type locality is Lake Kanunka, which is in a Zanclean channel horizon in the Tirari Formation of Australia.

Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore

Distribution: found only at Lake Kanunka
