Sister taxa: Phrynosoma asio, Phrynosoma douglassii, Phrynosoma modestum, Phrynosoma platyrhinos
Type specimen: LACM 6822/64595, a partial skull. Its type locality is Anza Borrego Desert State Park lizards, which is in a Blancan/Irvingtonian terrestrial horizon in the Palm Springs Formation of California.
Ecology: ground dwelling omnivore
Distribution: found only at Anza Borrego Desert State Park lizards
