Sister taxon: Shapajamys minor
Type specimen: MUSM 2995, a tooth (Right M2). Its type locality is Shapaja (TAR-01), which is in an Oligocene floodplain conglomerate in the Pozo Formation of Peru.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution: found only at Shapaja (TAR-01)
