Sister taxa: Stromatocystites pentangularis, Stromatocystites walcotti
Type specimen: QMF 17914. Its type locality is northern flank of a low rjse 400-800 m south of QP 243, Yaringa Creek, which is in an Ordian coastal chert in the Beetle Creek Formation of Australia.
